Genesis G70 Competitive Comparison

2021 Genesis G70 vs. Audi A4, Lexus IS 300, and Mercedes-Benz C 300: Compare compact luxury sedans near Atlanta

Once long-dominated by legacy German brands, the compact luxury sedan market got a bit of a shake-up in 2019 when the Genesis G70 earned the coveted North American Car of the Year award in its very first year of production. Now entering its third year of production, the 2021 Genesis G70 is still the segment's youngest player, and the competition is still playing catch-up, having yet to formulate a match for the G70's outstanding blend of luxury, performance, reliability, and value. Here's a quick look at how the latest G70 measures up to three of its closest rivals: Audi A4, Lexus IS 300, and Mercedes-Benz C 300.

Genesis G70 vs. Audi A4

  • Performance: Fayetteville drivers can enjoy top-tier driving dynamics with precise steering and playful handling with either model. But when it comes to what's under the hood, the G70 races into the lead and never looks back. The turbocharged G70 2.0T makes 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, outdueling the A4's standard turbo-2.0-liter (201 hp, 236 lb-ft) and nearly matching the A4's optional turbo-four (261 hp, 273 lb-ft). And when you add the twin-turbocharged 3.3T V-6, it's lights out, with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

  • Driver Aids: The G70 demonstrates Genesis' exceptional value and a firm commitment to automotive safety with a full suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies as standard equipment. Every trim level comes with collision avoidance, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, and lane-departure warning and mitigation. The A4 comes standard with collision mitigation and lane-departure warning. The rest require a higher trim or package.

  • Reliability and Value: The Genesis G70 has a perfect 5-star predicted reliability rating, making it one of the most reliable vehicles available to College Park drivers. The Audi A4 gets an "about average" 3-star rating. And the A4's starting MSRP of $39,100 is markedly higher than the G70's ($36,000).

Genesis G70 vs. Lexus IS 300

  • Performance: Comparing standard powertrains, the Lexus IS 300 gets closer than Audi, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter rated at 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. But stepping up to the optional powerplants, the IS 300's 3.5-liter V-6 (260 hp, 236 lb-ft) falls well short of the G70's twin-turbo V-6 (365 hp, 376 lb-ft). Both models are fun to drive, but the IS 300 can't match the G70's corner-carving prowess.

  • Driver Aids: Riverdale drivers will have no complaints with either model, as both come standard with a long list of advanced driver-assistance technologies like collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

  • Reliability and Value: Lexus is known for producing reliable cars, and the IS 300 gets a 4-star predicted reliability rating, which is "better than most," but still shy of the G70's 5-star rating. The IS 300 has a starting MSRP of $39,000, which is $3,000 above the G70.

Genesis G70 vs. Mercedes-Benz C 300

  • Performance: Like most cars in the compact luxury class, the C 300 and G70 are powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The C 300 edges out the G70 with 255 horsepower, 273 pound-feet of torque, but it doesn't have an immediate answer for the G70's available twin-turbocharged V-6. To get a C-Class with a similar engine requires shelling out an additional $15,000 over the C 300's base MSRP.

  • Driver Aids: The C 300 comes standard with collision warning and avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, and a driver attention warning system. Features like rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control require spending more money. These technologies are all standard on the G70.

  • Reliability and Value: While Mercedes-Benz vehicles are typically very reliable mechanically, the C 300 has a predicted reliability rating of 2.5-stars, with electrical issues being the most common complaint. And with a starting MSRP of $41,600, the C-Class is one of the segment's most expensive models and well above the G70's $36,000 MSRP.
